dc.description.other | Extant literature has emphasized the benefits accrued to individuals who span structural holes. Yet, agent-based simulation has suggested that if all actors in a network strove for structural holes, gains would be depleted. Through this paper, we build on this insight and model the interaction of structural hole seekers with actors who maximize other utility functions, at various network structures. When structural hole seekers interact with actors who maximize degree and closure, the later outperform the former when we consider betweenness. We obtained mixed results when we measured local brokerage (ego network betweenness). We conclude the paper with a discussion on implications for theory and practice. | pt_BR |
