dc.description.other | This research builds on the Social Capital and Social Network Research, focusing on tie formation among students in public schools. We explore the extent that tie formation might be explained by Social Dominance Orientation (SDO), race, among other variables. SDO is usually associated with acceptance of inequality in a society. As expected, students who present high SDO-E (rejection of equality between groups), present lower levels of friend citation. SDO-D has no association with friend citation. Contrary to expected, popularity is not explained by SDO. However, we found a positive and significant association between the interaction of race/ethnicity (White), and SDO-D heterogeneity. The results highlight the interplay between individual psychological orientations, race, and tie formation. Further, it suggests further inquiry on how social ties might emerge driven by dyadic differences of SDO. | pt_BR |
