dc.description.other | The HIV/AIDS epidemic has infected and killed millions of people around the world, especially in Africa Sub- Saharan countries. This disease progressively reduces the effectiveness of the immune system, which creates difficulties for people to go to school and to work, for example. As a result, the HIV/AIDS epidemic jeopardizes the economic growth and development of many countries. Therefore, an efficient HIV/AIDS treatment using antiretroviral therapy is necessary to improve the health conditions of these infected patients. For the treatment to work properly, the HIV-positive patients must strictly adhere to antiretroviral medication regimens. However, there is lack of incentives from the patients to adhere to this treatment. There are also barriers that compromise the nurses’ motivation to deliver HIV/AIDS health services. These two incentive problems suggest that the current HIV/AIDS treatment is not efficient. Therefore, the research proposes an economics tool to improve the HIV/AIDS treatment in these countries. This program is an income transfer mechanism for patients and nurses to dedicate to the treatment and it will be focus on the South African treatment. Thus, the higher adherence to the treatment, the better chances to improve the patient’s health conditions and the higher the probability of receiving income transference. This mechanism follows the same idea of the Brazilian “Bolsa Familia Program” on education, which government provides transference of resources to families that ensure their kids to go to school. | pt_BR |
