| dc.description.abstract | Este projeto tem como objetivo analisar o impacto que a introdução do Salary Cap teve na National Football League (NFL) e concluir se esse mecanismo foi benéfico ou não para a competitividade da liga. Para tal, esse trabalho será compreendido entre os anos de 1966 e 2017. Em uma liga que movimenta bilhões de dólares anualmente e depende da sua competitividade para continuar atraindo fãs, é necessário estudar os mecanismos que garantem a sua competitividade e maior paridade entre os times. Para tal, esse trabalho contou com a implementação de cinco metodologias para estudar o impacto da introdução do Salary Cap sobre a competitividade da NFL. Esperava-se que a introdução do Salary Cap tivesse afetado positivamente a competitividade da liga e tornado ela o menos previsível e o mais interessante possível para os seus fãs. Porém, esse resultado não ficou tão claro quanto o esperado. Algumas metodologias mostraram que o Salary Cap, de fato, contribuiu para uma maior paridade entre os times. Outros resultados, entretanto, mostraram que o Salary Cap trouxe efeitos indiretos que acabaram atuando contra a competitividade da liga. | dc.description.other | This academic project has the goal to analyze the impact of the introduction of the Salary Cap over the National Football League (NFL) and conclude if this tool was appropriate to develop a more competitive league or not. To make this possible, the project will comprehend the data from 1966 to 2017. With a flow of billions of dollars yearly and a necessity to keep a high level of competitiveness to keep attracting fans, it is necessary to study the mechanisms that can guarantee the closest parity as possible between the teams. For that, this research relied on five different methodologies to study the real impact of the introduction of the Salary Cap over NFL’s competitiveness. This study was expected to conclude that the introduction of the Salary Cap affected positively the NFL competitiveness and that this mechanism made the games less predictable and more interesting for the fans as possible. But the expected, and clear, outcome was not proved a hundred percent. Some methodologies show that the Salary Cap, in fact, helped for a higher parity between the teams. However, other methodologies show that the Salary Cap brought indirect effects that came out to be negative to the NFL’s competitiveness. This happened because some teams developed a way to capitalize gains over exogenous factors of the Salary Cap. | pt_BR |
