Melhoras infraestruturais da Br 163 e a expansão da fronteira agrícola: usos produtivos do solo e o desmatamento em direção a floresta Amazônica

Abstract

Este trabalho busca investigar o impacto da pavimentação da rodovia BR 163 na expansão da fronteira agrícola e no desmatamento na Amazônia Legal. A pesquisa busca responder como o recapeamento da BR 163, entre os trechos de Sinop (MT) e Miritituba (PA), influencia a produção agrícola e as taxas de desmatamento. Utilizando os métodos de Diferenças em Diferenças (DiD) e Propensity Score Matching (PSM), o estudo compara municípios adjacentes à rodovia antes e após a intervenção. O principal achado revela um crescimento significativo no desmatamento.

This work aims to investigate the impact of paving the BR 163 highway on the expansion of the agricultural frontier and deforestation in the Legal Amazon. The research seeks to answer how the resurfacing of BR 163, between the sections of Sinop (MT) and Miritituba (PA), influences agricultural production and deforestation rates. Using Difference-in-Differences (DiD) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methods, the study compares municipalities adjacent to the highway before and after the intervention. The main finding reveals an increase in deforestation.
