Investimento Estrangeiro Direto via M&A e o papel do BNDES: Estudo da relação entre investimentos de estrangeiros e financiamentos do BNDES

Abstract

O estudo tenta investigar a decisão de financiamento, se utilizou linhas de crédito do BNDES ou não, da firma estrangeira quando a mesma vai realizar investimentos no país. Estudos sobre o investimento estrangeiro direto (IED) em economias emergentes, como o Brasil, consideram fatores como risco político, corrupção e taxas de câmbio, cruciais para entender a influência do BNDES e das M&A no ambiente de investimento estrangeiro. No entanto, ainda não há consenso sobre esses fatores. Este estudo não se propõe a analisá-los, mas a explorar o papel dos investimentos estrangeiros na política de empréstimos do BNDES quando se trata de um investimento de uma empresa estrangeira. A relação entre o BNDES e as M&A pode ser vista desde o financiamento fornecido pelo banco até os impactos no ambiente de investimento. O objetivo é entender o papel do BNDES quando empresas estrangeiras, incluindo filiais brasileiras, investem no Brasil por meio de M&A. Para isso, foi criada uma base de dados combinando informações do BNDES e de M&A da Bloomberg.

The study aims to investigate the financing decision, whether it utilized BNDES credit lines or not, of foreign firms when they are making investments in Brazil. Studies on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in emerging economies, such as Brazil, consider factors like political risk, corruption, and exchange rates, crucial to understanding the influence of BNDES and M&A on the foreign investment environment. However, there is still no consensus on these factors. This study does not intend to analyze them but rather to explore the role of foreign investments in BNDES lending policy when it comes to investments by foreign companies. The relationship between BNDES and M&A can be seen from the financing provided by the bank to the impacts on the investment environment. The aim is to understand the role of BNDES when foreign companies, including Brazilian subsidiaries, invest in Brazil through M&A. For this purpose, a database combining information from BNDES and M&A from Bloomberg has been created.
