O Sul Global e o Meio Ambiente: Qual foi o papel da América Latina na construção do Direito Internacional Ambiental?

Abstract

Este relatório busca analisar a importância da atuação da América Latina na construção do Direito Internacional Ambiental. A região desempenhou um papel importante na consolidação da governança ambiental global ao participar ativamente de negociações multilaterais, influenciar a formulação de princípios essenciais e a promoção de tratados internacionais. Destaca-se sua contribuição para a consolidação do princípio das responsabilidades comuns, porém diferenciadas, bem como na consolidação do desenvolvimento sustentável e a soberania dos recursos dos países. Apesar das contribuições ativas em conferências e declarações, a complexa relação entre desenvolvimento econômico e preservação ambiental continua sendo um dos principais dilemas da região. A região permanece um espaço estratégico para a evolução das políticas ambientais globais, dada a sua riqueza natural e a complexidade de seus desafios socioeconômicos. A pesquisa consistiu em uma revisão de bibliografia internacional e em entrevistas semiestruturadas com profissionais da área, incluindo atuantes de Organizações da Sociedade Civil (“OSC”) e diplomatas aposentados e atuantes. A amostra de entrevistas foi pequena, porém reforçou insights verificados na revisão bibliográfica.This research project proposes to analyze the significance of Latin America's role in the development of International Environmental Law.
