The digital transformation in the financial sector has redefined competitiveness in the Brazilian banking market, especially following the rise of mobile investment platforms. This study investigates the impact of these platforms on deposit spreads, using the Differences-in-Differences methodology to assess how increased accessibility for investors to digital financial products has influenced financial institutions' fundraising efforts. The results indicate that the introduction of these platforms starting in 2016 contributed to a relative increase in deposit spreads, particularly among small and medium-sized banks, which have traditionally been more dependent on deposits. Additionally, the analysis by prudential segment revealed differentiated effects, with a greater impact on smaller institutions. Robustness tests, including prudential segmentation, confirmed the consistency of the results. This study highlights how technological innovations can intensify competition, redistribute market power, and reduce costs for consumers, while also presenting regulatory challenges related to the stability and mobility of deposits.
