dc.description.otherThis paper intends to analyze how the sponsorship of a private equity firm impacts underpricing of initial public offerings (IPOs). Underpricing is well documented in finance literature and occurs when the underwriter of an issue does not adjust the offering price to the demand observed in the bookbuilding phase of the IPO, creating positive initial returns. This work investigated IPOs that occurred in Brazil between 2004 and 2014 and finds evidence that private equity sponsorship increases the expected underpricing of an issue, contrary to the initial hypothesis and previous findings in literature.pt_BR
